Osees ist eine US-amerikanische Rockband aus Los Angeles. Sie wurde 1997 von John Dwyer als Soloprojekt unter dem Namen Orinoka Crash Suite gegründet und änderte im Verlauf ihrer Geschichte mehrfach den Bandnamen (OCS, Orange County Sound, The Ohsees, Thee Oh Sees, Oh Sees). Die Band veröffentlichte bereits über 20 Alben.[1]
Bandgeschichte
Orinoka Crash Suite wurde 1997 als Soloprojekt des Sängers und Multiinstrumentalisten John Dwyer (* 3. Oktober 1974 in Providence, Rhode Island) gegründet. 1998 zog Dwyer nach San Francisco. Aus dem Soloprojekt entwickelte sich eine Band. In San Francisco zog Dwyer aufgrund hoher Mietpreise 14 Mal um, bevor er deswegen Ende 2013 nach Los Angeles zog.[2] Dort wechselte er die Besetzung. Tim Hellman (Sic Alps) übernahm die Bassgitarre und Nick Murray (White Fence) übernahm das Schlagzeug. Im November 2016 verliess der Schlagzeuger Ryan Moutinho die Band. Anfang 2017 wurde der neue Schlagzeuger Paul Quattrone (Modey Lemon, Midnite Snake, Baby Bird, Italian Ice) bekannt gegeben.[3]
Ende 2017 tat sich Dwyer mit Brigid Dawson zusammen, gemeinsam veröffentlichten sie als OCS das Album "Memory of a Cut Off Head". Im Juli 2020 änderte die Band ihren Namen von Oh Sees nach Osees.[1] John Dwyer ändert den Namen der Band öfters, da er nach eigener Aussage die Musikpresse verachtet.[4]
Im August 2023 trat Osees beim La Route du Rock Festival in Saint-Malo in der Bretagne in Frankreich auf.[5] Am 31. Mai 2024 spielte Osees beim Freak Valley Festival in Netphen-Deuz in Nordrhein-Westfalen.[6]
John Dwyer war zwischenzeitlich u. a. auch in Coachwhips, Pink And Brown, Zeigenbock Kopf, The Hospitals, Yikes, Sword + Sandals, Bent Arcana, Witch Egg, Endless Garbage, Moon Drenched, Gong Splat und Posh Swat aktiv. Mit seinem Seitenprojekt Damaged Bug veröffentlichte John Dwyer zwischen 2014 und 2020 bereits vier Alben.[7] 2003 gründete Dwyer sein Label Castle Face Records.[2] Brigid Dawson war auch in Permanent Slow Fade aktiv.
